Synopsis

Peter Greenaway probably has one the most unique styles among contemporary directors. Greenaway, who is active both as a script writer and artist in addition to directing, has never limited his creation to the conventions of filmmaking and storytelling. Greenaway’s spouse Saskia Boddeke has taken on a difficult task by trying to capture the spirit of a multitalented person with whom she is also personally connected. Boddeke accomplishes the mission by including their mutual child in the project and choosing the alphabet as the form of the film. The latter offers both a firm structure and plenty of freedom – the alphabet consists of particular letters, but these are filled by the father and daughter with free associations. As a result the film offers a neat tour into not only the mind of a unique director, but a multi-layered depiction of being a parent, ageing, and the eternal search of the human mind.
