Genre: Drama
Synopsis

“Sofia is a vampire who, haunted by the ghosts of her victims, longs for the destruction of the world and with it the end to the curse of immortality”. That could be the film’s synopsis but also: “Sofia, following her career as a pop singer, has become an internet idol for teenagers who see no meaning in their lives and who beg her to kill them.” Or even: “Sofia, a pop idol who fights against her aging, has been kidnapped by ALMA system, a messaging app which forces her to capture new victims who will be transformed into internet ghosts”. Or none of those.

Inspired by the figure of the underground Chilean singer Sofía Oportot (who impersonates herself in the film), and shot without script the film puts together her songs and music videos while becoming something else, something immesurable and fascinating. Based on the idea of Pop Diva in the internet era VICTIMA POTENCIAL is a brave and fascinating attempt to capture the liquid state of unstructured ways of over-information and miss-communication of multi-screen reality. Furthermore, it’s a film which explores adolescent sensibility in the modern world through internet codes, and the devotion a teenager can feel for their favourite diva. Japanese anime is a strong reference and The Pied Piper of Hamelin tale is also involved: a project of adapting the fragmented timeline reality of internet to film storytelling? Be aware not to become a ghost.
