Synopsis

For Pekka, success is of highest importance. He is a bankrupt former CEO of a large IT company, who is ashamed of admitting his current status. To save face, he therefore has to be resourceful on a daily basis. Unexpectedly, Pekka’s parents come to visit him and his sisters. It is considered natural that the joint gathering of the family is arranged by the most successful one in the family – businessman Pekka. This requires him to be even more inventive in order to maintain his false façade. Being a great combinatory, Pekka meets this challenge, but then an accident happens to his niece. He starts to realise that there is more to being human than just work and success.

A funny and wistful men’s film, or a film for men. The authors correctly define their film. It is, indeed, a comedy, but also a drama – a drama of the modern society. The life arrangement, while successfully moving towards equality, has not removed the social pressure on men to be successful. And men break. A very necessary film.

Juha Lehtola has sufficient and successful experience in making TV series both as a screenwriter and a director. That is probably what has given him the skill to be thorough in writing a script and, even more importantly, writing every character. This makes the characters of this film and the entire ensemble of the actors playing them so enjoyable. Lehtola loves all of his characters without exception.
