Synopsis

A middle-age couple, Eun-ju and Heung-ju visit Cheongpyeong Temple after 30 years where they spent the night together for the first time. On the way from the Temple, Eun-ju finds out that she lost her phone. Heung-ju wants to find it on the next day, but Eun-ju hurries away to find her phone alone. As the night goes on, the couple’s sleepless winter night unfolds, bringing several people on their paths - an old friend, an ex-lover and a young couple who roam the icy temple gardens in love, mirroring Eun-ju and Heung-ju, who might have been doing the same 30 years ago.

Director and scriptwriter Jang Woo-jin builds an aura of mystical nostalgia around his characters, using juxtaposition, light, paintings and the temple landscapes to blur the viewer’s sense of time and who is who, as Eun-ju and Heung-ju and the two young lovers’ stories seem to become the same two people, only from different periods of their life. It makes for a quietly magical story of two people reminiscing about their shared lives and their past  with hopes to reconnect with each other in the present.
