Synopsis

Romanian director Paul Negoescu is known for his popular comedies. His films have been successful in his country and his sophomore "Two Lottery Tickets", was a box office hit. His third feature, "The Story of a Summer Lover" observes a men’s midlife crisis from a funnier aspect.

Petru (Alexandru Papadopol), is a math professor in Polytechnic University and with his two best friends, writer Silviu and actor Andi discusses everything, especially his open relationship with Irina. Despite the freedom of sleeping with other women, Petru wants to break up with her as he can’t achieve an orgasm when they are having sex. Although, Irina surprizes him by announcing that she’s pregnant, but she doesn’t see any future to their relationship. Petru is reconsidering his decision, while a new girl appears.

Negoescu pays homage to Woody Allen’s neurotic cinema and delivers a charming lightweight comedy. In an unpretentious pleasing way, the film enjoyably deals with everyday issues from sex and infidelity to professional success and men’s friendship. Captured in 35mm by Negoescu’s wife, Ana Draghici, "The Story of a Summer Lover" brings a cinematic refreshing air with a touch of retro-nostalgia suggesting a romantic approach where even Bucharest, embraced by jazz tunes, assimilates Paris.
