Synopsis

The remote Kiribati in Micronesia is one of the smallest states in the world and for a long time it could consider itself far removed from the rhythms of the modern world. What bad could happen to a country in the middle of an endless ocean that has an almost non-existent carbon footprint? Yet, in the ever-shrinking world of global networks there is no remote place and the wellbeing of a country is not tied only to its own actions. Therefore, Kiribati is at the forefront of the global climate changes as the rising sea level threatens to erase it from the world map. „Anote’s Ark”, set in a paradise like place, is the story of a desperate struggle of the people of Kiribati and their charismatic leader Anote Tong as they try to communicate to the world the eventual disappearance of a small nation and their 4000-year-old culture.
